WOAR is a non-profit organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania whose mission is to eliminate all forms of sexual violence through specialized treatment services, comprehensive prevention education programs, and advocacy for the rights of victims of sexual assault.
Founded in 1971 and incorporated in 1973 WOAR is America’s first rape crisis center.
Sexual violence is a social issue that requires the resources, knowledge and dedication of many different groups. By working together, we can work to eliminate sexual violence in our society. Meanwhile, WOAR is committed and ready—twenty-four hours a day—to serve the needs of survivors, to advocate on their behalf and provide life-saving information to the entire community.
WOAR’s Direct Services Department provides a 24-hour hotline, free individual and group counseling to children and adults who have experienced sexual abuse/sexual assault, counseling in Spanish, hospital and court accompaniment, and Latino outreach services.
WOAR’s Education Department offers trainings on issues of sexual violence within schools, social service organizations, and the community at large on issues of violence.
