Since the start of our Asian Outreach Program in 1997, WOAR has been working to address the gap in Asians who seek services, as well as the barriers that immigrant women and men face when they are experiencing relationship problems, domestic abuse and/or sexual abuse.
One of WOAR’s goals is to continue to engage the various Asian communities in Philadelphia in dialogues about the prevalence of sexual violence to increase awareness about available counseling and legal services for victims of sexual violence. The Asian Outreach Program works hand-in-hand with community-based organizations that are points of contact for Asian American families in order to provide the best services to the Asian communities in Philadelphia.
Not only do we help our Asian clients overcome sexual violence and abuse, but we also engage the various diverse communities in examining the cultural biases that can perpetuate it. Through collaboration with community leaders, educational presentations to community organizations, and the establishment of the Interpersonal Violence Against Asian Communities (IVAAC) Task Force, the number of Asian clients WOAR serves has increased over the years. WOAR’s commitment and dedication has allowed us to continue to build our credibility within the Asian communities.
Currently due to funding cuts WOAR does not have an Asian Outreach position. If you are looking for information or services please contact the WOAR office at 215-985-3315.
