Individuals who have been sexually assaulted may experience various thoughts, feelings and reactions to being traumatized. Some people are resilient and use positive coping skills to heal from the experience. Others turn to family and friends for support and guidance. Others may feel like they need a stranger or a professional to talk to. All responses are common for someone who has been sexually violated.
After a sexual assault you may experience immediate symptoms or be in shock and feel nothing for some time. The coping and healing process is different for everyone. There is no right or wrong way to heal. The important thing is to talk about your experience. Remember you are not alone!
