This 40 hour training will provide you with knowledge about sexual assault and how to provide crisis counseling to survivors. You will learn about adult rape, childhood sexual abuse, common reactions to trauma, the legal process, the forensic medical exam, confidentiality, and crisis counseling skills.
The training is state certified by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR). This training is open to adults over the age of 18 who are committed to becoming a WOAR volunteer. Please be aware that this training will not cover long term treatment methods: it offers a general overview of sexual violence and crisis intervention skills. Typically, WOAR volunteers have a high school diploma or a college degree.
For more information about volunteering, refer to Become a Volunteer or Intern. An interview must be conducted before entering the training.
Initial volunteer interviews are required to participate in SAC. Interviews will occur Tuesday, April 14, 3-5pm; and Wednesday April 15, 5-7pm (both at WOAR's office).
Five Fridays, 9-5pm (at WOAR's office).
All five Friday trainings must be completed to receive certification. SAC Certificates of Completion will be provided to volunteers after 6 months of active WOAR volunteerism.
