Adult Sexual Assault

Stranger Rape

Sexual assault can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Although you are more likely to be sexually assaulted by someone you know there are still thousands of cases of people being attacked by a stranger. Physical injury can often occur with stranger rape.

Acquaintance Rape

Acquaintance rape or Date rape is defined by the victim/survivor knowing their attacker. This type of violence may occur on a date or at a party. The offender may be a boyfriend, husband, friend, neighbor or work colleague.

Attempted Rape

Attempted rape occurs when the individual is able to fight off their attacker, the assault was interrupted or the perpetrator runs away. Individuals who experience an attempted assault can often times be just as traumatized as a survivor of rape. Similar feelings of fear, confusion and anger may occur.

It is never too late to receive counseling for sexual assault. If you are an adult who experienced sexual violence please reach out for support. It doesn't matter if the abuse occurred when you were a child or yesterday. Keeping the feelings to yourself is usually what prolongs the symptoms and may lead to additional problems.
