Open Drop-In Groups
Weekly groups open to sexual assault survivors. Interested participants need only to attend on time and be a survivor of sexual violence.
CORE group is a 10-week OPEN psycho-education group for adult survivors of sexual violence of any gender identification.
Topics covered in CORE include knowledge on common reactions after a sexual violence experience, coping skills/self-care, anger, guilt and self-blame, and relaxation techniques.
The goals of CORE group focus on raising awareness of sexual violence, healing techniques, and connecting with other survivors for support. Group participants are asked not to share graphic sexual violent experiences in the group.
CORE group meets every Monday from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.
Sexual Assault Court Support Group is a 6-week OPEN psycho-education group for adult survivors of sexual violence of any gender identification that need support navigating and understanding the criminal justice system.
Topics covered in this group include understanding what the criminal justice system for sexual assault cases looks like, ways to achieve closure outside of the criminal justice system, and restoring balance in life.
The goals of Sexual Assault Court Support Group include understanding the reporting process and court system for sexual assault and connecting with other survivors for support. Group participants are asked not to share graphic sexual violent experiences in group.
Sexual Assault Court Support Group meets every Wednesday from 1:30 pm to 3 pm.
** This is NOT a legal advice group, Women Organized Against Rape – WOAR does not have a legal team nor is able to provide legal advice. **
Closed groups are offered at Women Organized Against Rape – WOAR three times a year based on client interest. All Groups will begin in February, May, and September so please check the WOAR Calendar for specific start dates.
Survivors interested in participating in one of WOAR’s closed group MUST complete an intake with WOAR by contacting WOAR’s 24-hour crisis hotline at (215) 985-3333 to be participate in a group.
Survivors DO NOT need to attend individual therapy with WOAR to be a part of a Closed WOAR support group.
Women’s Group is a 8 to 10 week CLOSED group is offered several times throughout the year for women 18 and older who have been sexually abused as children or sexually assaulted as an adult. A safe and supportive environment is established for members to discuss and process their trauma. The women are provided with education on symptoms, sexual abuse/assault, Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), relaxation techniques, self-esteem and healthy sexual relationships. The goals of the group are to offer the women an opportunity to express their emotions, receive support from others who have experienced sexual violence, understand the dynamics of abuse, learn coping skills and improve their self-esteem.

Teen Group is a 8 to10 week CLOSED group which is offered to teens ages 13 to 17 who have been sexually assaulted/abused. The group learns about common reactions to trauma and coping skills to handle these reactions. The group explores topics including guilt, blame and anger; and learns skills to cope with these emotions. The group also focuses on social skills, questions about sexuality and education on Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The goal of our Teen Group is for your teen to be able to gain ideas and strategies from their peers and are learn how to to express their concerns and emotions in a comfortable and safe environment.

Building Blocks Group is a 5 to 8 week CLOSED group designed for children between the ages of 3 and 6 years of age.
Stepping Stones Group is a 5 to 8 week CLOSED group designed for children ages 7 to 12 years of age.
Both groups are for child survivors of sexual abuse and up to two non-offending caregivers. The goals of the both groups are to allow the children the opportunity to learn about their body and safe touch in addition to exploring their feelings pertaining to the abuse and their relationships with their support system. Caregivers are given the opportunity to learn skills, support their child and express their feelings about the abuse in an adult space with other caregivers.
