Dear Friends,
As President of WOAR’s Board of Directors, I am writing to share an important leadership update with you as a valued member of the WOAR community.

For more than 50 years, WOAR Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence has remained committed to supporting survivors of sexual violence, strengthening our community through education and prevention, and advancing healing and justice throughout Philadelphia. That work is only possible because of the partnership, trust, and generosity of supporters like you.
Gabriella Fontan has decided to step down as Executive Director, effective March 31, 2026. Gabriella shared, “It has been an honor to serve in this role. I am proud of the work we have done together, and I am committed to supporting a smooth transition. I have great confidence in the team and WOAR’s future.” We are grateful for Gabriella’s leadership and service to WOAR, and we appreciate her commitment to supporting a smooth and thoughtful transition.
The Board of Directors has appointed LaQuisha Anthony as Acting Executive Director, effective April 1, 2026. LaQuisha is a nationally certified advocate, educator, and visionary leader who has dedicated her career to advancing justice, healing, and survivor-centered support systems. After nearly a decade of transformative leadership within WOAR, she steps into this role with deep institutional knowledge, unwavering commitment, and a bold vision for WOAR’s future.

Over the past nine years, LaQuisha has been a driving force within the organization, helping to shape WOAR’s strategic direction, strengthen advocacy efforts, expand survivor-centered programming, and deepen community partnerships across the region. As Senior Manager of Advocacy, she has championed policies and initiatives that elevate survivor voices and push systems toward greater accountability and equity.

LaQuisha’s leadership reflects the values that have long guided WOAR’s work: compassion, collaboration, courage, and an unwavering commitment to survivors. The Board is confident that, under her leadership, WOAR will continue to be a vital force for change, a trusted resource in Philadelphia’s safety net, and a leading voice in the movement to end sexual violence.
The Board has every confidence in LaQuisha’s leadership and in WOAR’s continued strength during this transition. WOAR remains fully committed to its mission and to the individuals and families who rely on our services every day.
We are deeply grateful for your ongoing partnership, support, and belief in WOAR’s work. Your belief in WOAR’s mission helps make this work possible, and we are thankful to have you alongside us as WOAR enters its next chapter.
We look forward to all we will accomplish together in support of survivors and our community.
Please join us in welcoming LaQuisha Anthony as Acting Executive Director.
With gratitude,

Joanne Strauss, Esq.
